Choose a passphrase. Your notes are encrypted with it and stored only in this browser on this device.
If you forget this passphrase your notes cannot be recovered. Nobody can reset it.

How your notes are stored
Where your notes are stored
Notes are kept only in this browser on this device, in its built-in
database. They are never sent to the web server, which only delivers
the page itself. Another browser, browser profile or device has its own
separate, empty store.
How they are protected
Every note, including its title, is encrypted with AES-GCM using a
256-bit key.
The key is made from your passphrase using PBKDF2-SHA-256 with
rounds and a random salt. This
makes guessing passphrases slow.
Your passphrase is never stored. The key exists only in this tab's
memory while unlocked, and is forgotten when you press Lock or close
the tab.
Export files are encrypted the same way and need the passphrase to
import.
What is not encrypted
Note dates, the number of notes, and display settings (sort order,
wrap).
Limits to be aware of
A forgotten passphrase cannot be reset; the notes are lost.
Clearing this site's data in the browser deletes the notes. Safari
may also clear them after a period without visits. Export
regularly.
Anyone using this device while the notes are unlocked can read
them.
Encryption can't protect against malicious software on the device,
or harmful code on this website.
